Geyser high on Hualca Hualca, an active volcano bordering Colca Canyon.  It’s a long walk uphill from the nearest road.  Here it is on the approach.

The Native Americans still make offerings here to appease the mountain spirits.  The opening is roughly the height of an adult person.

A little too close for comfort – five minutes later the thing went off big time, just after we left the immediate area.  The fumes were sulfurous and unbreathable.

Captures from a video, 1998
