Comments and the Literary World
I’m not well versed in the world of internet discourse, and happened to notice just now that I had several comments about my Machu Picchu post. Some of the authors identified themselves as weight loss specialists and other odd professionals. No matter. All reflection is worthwhile, regardless of the source.
More to the point, my literary agent in New York is going to make a push next month to see if we can get a book deal for “Descending the Cairo Side,” from which the excerpt “Hitchhiker” received the 2008 Pacific Northwest Literary Award for Adult Non-fiction. I’d put the piece on my blog, but I’d rather see it first in print. Of course, the printed page is rapidly going the way of our northern temperate rain forest in the United States and Canada. A weird synergy to the whole mess. Maybe one day Kindles and I-phones will be made from kelp-based plastic.
Stay tuned for my next posts where I will write about Afghanistan, a country I once knew well.
